Hello everybody!
I’m Julia de Haan and this year I’m the chair of the wonderful Sophia Aeterna. As chair, I (you guessed it) chair meetings and I am also the first point of contact within the association. I’m 19 years old and currently in my second year of the GLTC bachelor’s program.
I’ve been living in Leiden for about half a year now (a period with a few too many moves), but I’m originally from Gouda. Besides obsessing over Euripides’ tragedies, I definitely also have some other hobbies. I’m a fan of English literature, I practice every ‘grandma hobby’ you can think of, and I’m always up for a bit of Fleetwood Mac karaoke.
If you ever see me in the hallways of the Lipsius or among the plants in the Arsenaal, feel free to say hi! I’m always looking for an excuse for a coffee break :)
I’m super excited to see you at all the amazing activities that are coming up this year! See you then!
Much love,
Julia <3
Hoi lieve lezers!
I am Elena Sophia Anthonio. I couldn’t resist the urge to brag a little about the fact that I share my middle name with our wonderful study association—the very association for which I have the privilege of serving as *ab-actis* this academic year. This means that, throughout the coming year, I’ll be sending out plenty of emails on behalf of Sophia Aeterna—including our (semi-)monthly updates—to keep you informed about all the activities we, as a board, are planning for you. And that’s not all: I’ll also be responsible for taking the minutes at all our meetings.
Hopefully I will get to know you all a little better at Sophia activities or if we just have a chat when we meet each other in the wild. I often have music on when I'm emailing or translating, but I mainly tap to have a nice chat. I myself come from the small Bergschenhoek (rand town of Rotje knor), but last summer I got a room in Leiden!! This year I will hopefully also discover the gyms and swimming pools (I prefer to always be in the water) in Leiden.
Greetings and kisses,
Elena
Hi there, dear readers!
I am Tess Kriesels, and this year I have the privilege of bothering you with emails begging you to pay your membership fees so that Sophia’s bank account will be able to fund another year of fun activities. You see, I am Sophia’s treasurer, a role that makes me responsible for our association’s financial affairs. I'm confident this will work out and I'm really looking forward to it!
Besides the orderliness required of me by the treasurer's Excel sheets, I also possess a somewhat chaotic nature, which comes out best when our beloved external assessor and I sing Bohemian Rhapsody in the beautiful Lipsius. I love belting out music at concerts of my favorite bands anyway, and by now I can also belt out the Tetris tune at the top of my lungs. But I promise that I am also capable of producing vocal sounds in a somewhat normal way, so don't hesitate to chat with me if you see me prancing around! Lots of love and hopefully see you soon at one of our activities,
Lots of love,
Tess
Hiiiii,
I’m Pascal, and I’m the Assessor intern. This means I oversee the committees and ensure they run smoothly. I’m from Deventer and am starting my third year of the Bachelor’s program in Greek and Latin Language and Culture. In addition to that, I’m also studying philosophy. Outside of my studies, I enjoy playing the piano, reading, and various kinds of fibercrafts (crocheting, knitting, embroidery, sewing). I look forward to seeing you at the #lit #awesome #cool activities we’ll be organizing this year.
xxxx Pascal
Allerliefste sophisten!!
I’m Féline, 19 years old, and this coming year I’ll be serving as Sophia’s Assessor Extern. This means I handle all external contacts—such as other associations and the faculty—so I spend a lot of my time in meetings.
I’m also starting my second year of studies; besides the Sophia "hok", I’ll therefore be regarding the rather grim Lipsius lecture halls as a second home. With my room just a short walk from the Lipsius building, I’m always nearby. So, if you ever want to grab some vegetarian pasta carbonara together, I’d absolutely love that!
Naturally, I’m hugely into classical languages, but I promise I have other interests too; I love reading, art, and running, and I think cycling holidays are fantastic.
But what I enjoy most of all is chatting with all of you—whether I already know you or not!! So please come join me for a long coffee break to escape the University Library, or let’s grab a drink on a terrace!
Lots of love,
Féline
