Our board would like to introduce itself to you!

Hello everyone!

I am Thirza and this year I will be the chair of Sophia Aeterna. For the past two years I have studied Classics and I am currently in the second year of the bachelor. When I am not occupied with our beautiful study or with Sophia I also study History, with which I am in my third year of the bachelor. Besides that, things that make me happy are good food, listening to music and my two cats.

As chair of Sophia I will of course preside over the General Assemblies and write to you every month via our newsletter. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or ideas, or if you just want to chat. Together with all our committees and my fellow boardmembers we will organise all sorts of amazing activities this year. Furthermore, we have the honourable task to be the tenth board of Sophia, which means that we will celebrate our second lustrum this year! I am sure that we will have an amazing year together and I look forward to seeing you all!

Beste wishes,

Hi all!

My name is Lisanne, I’m 19 years old and I’m originally from a very small, picturesque village in the province of Friesland, it’s called Nij Beets. I love being in nature, taking a nice walk or reading a good book (or a less good book you can complain about to someone afterwards). This is going to be my third year studying Classics in Leiden, and I’m planning on finishing my Bachelor’s this year! I’m very much looking forward to being back on campus, and being part of the social atmosphere surrounding our small study again!

This year I’ll be Sophia Aeterna’s secretary! This means, among other things, I’ll keep an eye on the mailbox, take care of the administration, and take notes during our meetings. I’m really hoping we’ll be able to organise a lot of activities again. The low threshold has invited me to join the activities Sophia has organised in the past. After a long time of online activities (drinks, lectures, etc.) where – at least for me personally – the threshold might have been a little higher, I am very much looking forward to organise a lot of fun activities where hopefully the threshold is a lot lower again and we can all get to know each other and enjoy each other’s company!

Beste wishes,

Lisanne

Hi all!

I’m Heleen and I will be the treasurer of the study association, which means I will keep an eye on our bank account. I am quite precise, so I think this role suits me. Until recently, I have only known the study association in ‘Covid-times’, but because of this, I can assure you that even during strict lockdowns Sophia Aeterna has lots to offer. Yet hopefully, it will be different this year: I hope many of our activities can take place in real life rather than online so that we can celebrate our lustrum anniversary properly.

About me: I’m 20 years old and I come from Ermelo, a village on the Veluwe. I started Classics a year ago as a second study (besides English Language and Culture). In my spare time I like to read, which you may have expected with someone doing two studies that concern language and literature. Besides that, I also like spending my time with my two cats.

I hope to see you all in real life during activities and I look forward to making this a great year!

Best wishes,

Heleen

Hi everyone!

My name is Mick Lammers and this year, I get to be the commissioner of Sophia Aeterna, which means my main task will be organising the various committees our association has to offer. I’ll also aim to maintain our good connections with other associations in- and outside our field of work. Additionally, I am the one to come to with all book-related issues, for I keep in contact with our bookseller Athenaeum. Last, I try to help my colleagues with their tasks if necessary: the commissioner does a little bit of everything!

About me: I am 21 years old, born and raised in the ‘sjoeëne’ (beautiful) south of Netherlands Limburg and this year I expect to conclude my Classics bachelor’s programme as a fourth year’s student, before starting the master’s programme. Also in Leiden, I’ll be starting my second year as a student of Italian Language and Culture. When I’m not at the university, I’ll probably be in The Hague to tutor middle and high schoolers and help them with Latin, Greek or their other homework, or at home, making some music, gaming a little bit or reading.

I’d like to see you (live) at the university or at one of our activities!

Kind regards,

Mick
